Consider the Soft Side of Leadership
Today we're talking about attracting and retaining top talent to grow your firm.
I invite you to consider measuring success based on the quality of relationships with customers, employees, and vendors.
There's no doubt that the expectations and desires of the workforce are changing or have changed, and the importance of work-life balance and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being are near the top of everyone's mind.
In consulting with successful firms, I emphasize the critical importance of what we once thought of as "soft" skills - people, relationships, and culture. These are essential bedrocks for thriving businesses.
Focus on creating an environment where individuals can contribute to something bigger than themselves and align their values with the firm's values. Take the initiative to engage with them and they will engage more with your company.
Your customers need solutions to their problems. This requires critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills at all levels of your company. Great solutions can come from anyone in your company.
I shared these and other perspectives on talent in a recent podcast, The Accounting Influencers Podcast with host Rob Brown. Here are a few of my best ideas with related timestamps.
