I spent most of the week out of town facilitating a couple of retreats. One was for NextGen Leaders. The other was on growth for your firm or company and understanding your unique value proposition.

A couple of brief thoughts.

Engagement

The topic of engagement came up and the different generations of workers in the workforce these days.

As someone said, "It doesn't matter what generation someone is in. Every really wants the same thing and that is to feel that they are contributing their time and effort to a company, firm, or organization that has a purpose."

If you want to have higher levels of engagement, you've got to engage with them.

Why

The "Why" of our firm is what attracts and engages our clients and future clients. It's also the same message for engaging with our employees.

The Power of Appreciation™ - Use It

As Tom Peters wrote, "Acknowledgment... is the most powerful tool in the leader's kit." Use it.

What Makes Your Firm Unique

How do you differentiate your firm in the marketplace?

Culture, what you believe, the reason you come to work every day, the reason why you love serving the customers you serve every day, and your commitment to excellence. These are differentiators.

What's that one thing you do better than anyone else? Yes, you can choose to have "the world's best coffee". (See the motion picture film, Elf).

How Do You Define Excellence?

However, you define it for your industry, your market, and your company, be relentless in striving to achieve it.

To achieve it, you gotta believe it.

Leadership

A leader climbs the tallest tree in the jungle and yells, "Wrong jungle".

Leadership is doing the right things. (Covey)

Imposter Syndrome

If you ever feel this way, you're in good company. Every great leader at one time or another has, too.

Until Next Time!
